family vaca, day 3

yet another foggy and chilly day...

stop #1

they girls loved these guys!

made me wish i had thought to read up on them so i could tell them the story

(this is where i lack in the super mom department).

i was told that i came here as a child,

i only know it to be true because there are pictures of me in front of Paul and Babe.

(see?  why didn't i think to read up on them?)

can you see on the branches of the big tree how there are trees growing from them?  i wish i knew how to put arrows on the pic...  i hope you can see it.
i am so glad that i brought my girls here and hope that some day they get to see it as adults.

talk about an inspiring and thought provoking place!

3000 years!!

i don't understand how people can deny science??

i cried when i read this...

like took a minute to get control of myself cried.

i wish i would have taken a better picture of the colors...

when i looked up it left me speechless.

this stuff was amazing to me, so i'm sharing.

the sky trail...

i was really excited to go on this,

Katie was scared but hubby talked her up and she decided to go.

we get there and hubby decides to let me know that he isn't going,

he doesn't "do heights"

...

that's right,

i now had to take both girls,

by myself,

high above the ground,

now i'm freaking out.

i think to my self...

'well he's gonna feel like shit if this thing breaks and we all die'

wtf?!?

am i the only one that thinks like this?

i sucked it up and enjoyed having the experience alone with my girls...

we were told that had it been a clear day we would be able to see the ocean.

on the way back down they were so brave,

they unclentched their grasps on me and walked across the little basket,

just so i could take this picture.

now i was really wishing i had read up on them!

it is now on my list of things to do to read up on Paul and Babe.

a little lunch and we are off to find Fern Canyon.

or not...

it was getting late and taking a while so we nixed it.

not before a short hike through the woods...

the girls decided they were hiking guides,

they now just wanted to hike the rest of the day.

it would have been nice but then we would have to stay in a hotel for an extra night,

i just didn't want that.

we got back in the car and hit the road.

not far into our drive and we came to the Klamath River,

there was a huge crowd of people gathered on the bridge.

the night before i heard a couple talking about a whale in a river,

sure enough...

we heard that she had a baby with her

but that when they tried to heard them back to the ocean they were separated.

the baby made it to the ocean but momma didn't and wont leave without her baby.

it was amazing to see this creature so close,

yet at the same time i felt so guilty.

what an amazing adventure to have shared with my family,

i will remember it always.

day late and a dollar short...

actually 3 days late and a couple hundred dollars short.

this was meant to be posted on the last night of our vacation,

unfortunately i made my hubby check us in this time,

he did so even though they told him they were having issues with their Internet!

he wont make that mistake again!

Saturday we drove for 7.5 hours straight.

we wanted to take our time,

there were things we wanted to see.

as we neared the fist location we were halted to a dead stop,

traffic jam...

i called 511 and heard there was an accident,

we could expect a 2.5 hour delay!!

yeah right!!

3 days basically in the car with my hubby and kids...

we had just passed the cutoff for Portland,

i turned us around and that was that.

we got home early which was nice,

except that i was exhausted and as soon as i stopped i was out.

Sunday was actually a really nice day,

i did a lot and will share in my next post,

until then....

take care
xoxoxo
Nic
